Housing researchers across Canada strive to do research that supports evidence-based policy. However, the majority of researchers face profound limitations in accessing the cadastral, assessment, sales, and rent data that they require to do sound scientific analysis. This talk will examines what important research Canadian researchers have been able to accomplish using such data—and what questions they would have liked to research, but have not been able to due to lack of data access. The goal of the talk is to open dialog with data providers, universities, and governments to try to find a path forward to facilitate policy-supporting housing research across Canada.
This talk was given by Professor Dawn Cassandra Parker – Visiting Professor, School of Cities and Professor, School of Planning, University of Waterloo – assisted by Robert Arku and Shahab Valaei Sharif.
