Hae Yeon Choo, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto Mississauga and Director of the Centre for the Study of Korea at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, conducts research art the intersection of gender, citizenship, transnational migration, and urban sociology to examine global social inequality. In a recent article in Urban Studies, she examines how women in South Korea have emerged as agents of a real-estate driven urban transformation by engaging in ‘speculative homemaking’, an activity that merges the domestic work of household management with the work of real estate speculation.
