Ron Levi, Director, Global Justice Lab, Distinguished Professor of Global Justice; Professor at the Munk Global Affairs & Public Policy and the Department of Sociology, has co-authored a new research report analyzing recent data on homicide, robbery, larceny, and progressive prosecution in the United States. Working with Todd Foglesong , Fellow-in-Residence at the Munk School, and colleagues at Boston University, University of Missouri St. Louis, Temple University, Loyola University, and Rutgers University, their analysis found no evidence to support the claim that progressive prosecutors are responsible for the increase in homicide, whether during the pandemic or before it. Through three different analyses, and pooling data from across cities, they do not find a relationship between progressive prosecution approaches and the crimes they studied.
