Associate Professor, Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education
Field of study: Kinesiology
Areas of interest: A new research direction that I am working towards this year:1) To interrogate the role of urban sports spaces in addressing issues of environmental sustainability and human-animal relations 2) To interrogate the power relations inherent in the multispecies contact zones of urban sport spaces. I will be considering the spatial, political, economic, ethical and environmental dimensions of non-human animals and more-than human actants (actors that have agency- e.g., plastics, waste pollution) in the social and cultural practices of urban sport spaces. These interconnecting concerns- of animal welfare, consumption, and environmental degradation have local and global significance for cities, public space and urban sports complexes.
